Growing up, I always envisioned a fairytale wedding – the white dress, the beautiful venue, and the love of my life waiting for me at the altar. It seemed like the ultimate goal, the ultimate happiness. However, as time passed and I matured, I began to question if marriage was truly for me.

The idea of spending my life with one person, legally bound to them, seemed daunting. Would I be able to maintain my independence? Would I lose sight of my own dreams and aspirations in the midst of a marriage? These thoughts lingered in my mind, causing me to doubt the path I had always assumed I would take.
As I shared my fears and uncertainties with my mother, she would always reassure me with a knowing look in her eyes. “My dear,” she would say, “marriage is not a necessity for everyone. Follow your heart and do what makes you truly happy.”
Her words resonated with me, and I began to delve deeper into what truly brought me joy and fulfillment. I realized that my happiness did not depend on a ring on my finger or a wedding certificate. It stemmed from chasing my passions, nurturing my relationships, and embracing life’s adventures on my terms.
In today’s society, there is often a pressure to conform to traditional expectations – to marry, settle down, and start a family. But I have come to understand that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to happiness. Each person’s journey is unique, and it is important to listen to our inner voice and make choices that align with our values and desires.

So, as I stand here today, I have made peace with the fact that marriage is not in the cards for me. And you know what? I couldn’t be more content with this decision. I am choosing to live authentically, to prioritize my own well-being and happiness above societal norms and expectations.
In the end, my mother was right all along. She saw what I couldn’t see at the time – that my path to fulfillment might look different from the one I had always imagined. And for that, I am grateful. I am forging my own way, embracing my independence, and living life on my own terms. And that, to me, is the true essence of happiness.
